Cherry mustard BBQ kebabs

Cookout and BBQ Season!

Say hello to the last protein for this month of BBQ backyard cookout foods, I bring you the kebab. But not any kebab, pure meat filled, juicy yummy goodness, using a cherry mustard bbq sauce.

I was browsing youtube bbq vids a few weeks ago and stumbled upon some folks, who surprisingly use mustard as their bbq sauce base and not Ketchup! Shocking right? I began to wonder, could that really taste good? Mustard has such a strong bold flavor, but some added sweetness will certainly tame the beast; aka honey mustard. You all have seen my standard sauce. Ketchup, honey, molasses, stock and spices, yummy every time, but delving into mustard based sauces is a brave new world, however I decided to take the challenge and make my first bbq sauce using no ketchup.

How did the cherries get involved? you might be wondering. I am a little woman who loves to try new things in the kitchen. My mother had gone fruit shopping and the last bit of some cherries were left. They were extremely sweet and I had a feeling the sweetness from the cherries would pair well with the punch you get from mustard. I only had a ½ cup of them, but I would have used way more if I had the choice.

Some of you will be barbequing well into August. So make sure you give this one a try

Chicken and shrimp seasoning
1.5 pound shrimp
1 pound chicken breast tenderloins
1 tbsp. Salt
1 tbsp.  Black pepper
1 tbsp. Smoked paprika

Marinade
½ cup pitted cherries
½ cup chopped shallots
1 tbsp. oil
¼ cup white zinfandel
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup mustard
1tbs olive oil
1 teaspoon soy sauce

Sauce
Blended marinade
¼ cup of white zinfandel
¼ cup water
1tsp mustard
1 tsp. soy sauce
2 tsp. sugar

Remember if your making this for persons with food allergies or your not sure, don't mix the shellfish and the poultry. Keep them separate at all times. And if all else fails, just use chicken

Happy Grilling !!!
