"Greedy Girl Eats"

For this post, I headed over to the South East coast of Jamaica to Hellshire beach. I have never been to this location before. Anytime escovitch of fried fish is mentioned Hellshire fish is always among the places receiving accolades. So I made it my point of duty to try this spot. In particular I visited Bev and Sons establishment which is one of many lining the beach. Lets see how their escovitch fish rated.

Escovitch fish is really just a well-seasoned fish fried crispy and topped with a spicy pickle sauce. The sauce is full of vinegar, onions, pimento, hot peppers and carrots. This sauce can be made and left to soak for months, even years and still be delicious. The longer it soaks the better the flavor.
The fifth restaurant I will review is  Bev & Sons on Hellshire beach .

Name: Bev & Sons
Location: Helshire Beach, St Catherine

The one thing that surprised me the most about this area is the vast amount of choices one has to dine. There are at least 15 seafood shacks lining the beach all becoming for you to come to theirs and try the freshest and most delicious seafood. Before heading to Hellshire I did a quick google search and found about three joints I wanted to try. But there was just something about the way the fish looked at Bev & Sons that made be decided to eat there.

Seasoning: 8 Really good seasoning !
Consistency: 10 this rating is based of the fact that I have never heard a negative review of the fish here.
Pickle: 7 while the pickle is good, the vinegar is a bit weak and watered down. However onions are nice and crunchy
Crispiness: 10 Fish is fried to perfection.
Fish freshness: 10 Fish was freshest and most delicate I have every had.
Hiccups: 0
 Total score 45/50 or 90%

Greedy tips:

  • Dont come here in heels or dressed in your best, the restaurant is on the beach, as in the ground you walk on and dine on is sand.
  • They have ample seating area inside, large bench cafeteria style seating.

Remember this review is JUST for the escovitch fish, not for their entire menu. Just the way I like it you choose your own fish and its done to order. P.S their
Festivals are like doughnuts perfect texture, could be a little sweeter though. but so good!
