Chicken Chop Suey

Time for Takeout!

Say hello to the final recipe for take-out month. Chicken chow mein, a lovely dish of sautéed meat and veggies usually served over noodles or rice. This home-made version is crispy and flavorful; perfect for a quick weekday dinner.

Shrimp toast

Time for Takeout!

Flavorful shrimp paste slathered on bread and fried to a toasty crisp. That’s all this is, pretty much shrimp croutons if you ask me. Very delicious, the onions, ginger, scallions and garlic add so much flavor to the shrimp. I love the texture difference where the bread is super crunchy with the other side being creamy with a light crisp. Who new home made shrimp toast could be so good.

Mushroom Egg rolls

Time for Takeout!

Who doesn’t love a hot crispy egg roll smothered in sauce? I love fried wontons and I also adore egg rolls. My only issue with the takeout versions is their general lack of flavor. The fillings are usually bland, but that package of soy sauce, hot sauce or duck sauce saves the day. But I dare you to try one of them without a sauce ‘no Bueno’. But these home-made babies right here are full of flavor!

Pumpkin Cabbage Dumplings

M..eat..less

Believe it or not, my lazy self was going to make a salad for this post. Yes a SALAD. Lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots some raisins and a home-made dressing. After careful consideration, I felt that I would be cheating you guys out of a recipe if I had indeed done this. So with no preparation at all I went into the kitchen with no idea what I would be making for this post. What I saw on the counter was a very large pumpkin my Grand Uncle had given to us. Hence this dumpling was born.

Scallion Pancakes with Spicy Soy Sauce

Pancake Month!

Hello September

This greedy girl has dubbed September 2013 “Pancake Month”. This month I will be doing a number of pancakes from all around the world, Chinese, Indian, Jamaican, you name it, I’ll be making it.

According to the know-it-all Google;
pan·cake/ˈpanˌkāk/
Noun; A thin, flat cake of batter, usually fried and turned in a pan.
