Call me the Dairy Queen

It’s Friday and FINALLY, the end of ice-cream month. This has been the longest month of my life and if I never see a box of heavy cream for the next 6 months I’ll be just fine. Today we have a super delicious creamy, perfect scoop of mint, cream and cookies. Its cookie and cream 2.0

Banana Rum Ice-cream

Call me the Dairy Queen

A banana ice-cream generally wouldn’t be high up on my list. Any time we have over ripe bananas we opt for delicious and moist banana bread. However this ice-cream has made me realize that we might have to start making an exception to that rule. I’m not a huge fan of bananas but I loved this ice-cream. If you love bananas this may be the ice-cream you need to try. Its rich and creamy bursting with banana flavor with hints of rum undertones.

Jackfruit Grapenut Ice-cream

Call me the Dairy Queen

This very large tropical fruit is now a delicious creamy ice-cream bursting with jackfruit flavor and filled with crunchy grape-nuts for added texture. Just opening the quart container, the smell of the jackfruit hits you as if you were eating the raw fruit. The fruit has been perfectly captured in this ice-cream.

Toasted Hazelnut Coffee and Nutella ice cream

Call me the Dairy Queen

Today’s dessert is nutty, creamy sweet and delicious. It’s almost impossible to go into an ice-cream shop and not see a coffee flavored ice-cream. So I decided that us home cooks should have one in our arsenal as well. And this recipe is even better than the ones in the parlor because its jam packed with toasted hazelnuts and Nutella. As if coffee ice-cream needed to get any more awesome than it already is!

Honey roasted pistachio matcha ice-cream

Call me the Dairy Queen

Honey Roasted Pistachios, crunchy and delicious in some sweet creamy smooth matcha green tea ice-cream. This ice-cream brings back childhood memories of summers spent in NY and several trips made the Ice-cream Factory to fill my face with pistachio grape-nut ice-cream; Creamy sweet crunchy perfection.

Strawberry Cheesecake Ice-cream

Call me the Dairy Queen

This ice-cream will be the hit will all the cheesecake lovers out there. Unfortunately I am not one of them. I could never wrap my head around eating a large chunk of cheese and butter. I generally peel off the crust and eat that with a little strawberry topping. However as a cheesecake hater I will say this ice-cream is quite good.  The consensus from everyone who has tasted it is that it tastes exactly like cheesecake. I think it taste better.

I have several favorite ice-cream flavors and cotton candy is among the top three. This ice-cream takes you back to your childhood. One of the most nostalgic ice-cream flavors comes to your kitchen with a little new addition of the crunchy ginger snap cookies.

Pumpkin hot chocolate

 “Pumpkin Everythang”

I am a lover of hot chocolate, warm, creamy and sweet. There is nothing better on a cold night. For whatever reason I almost always prefer hot chocolate at night than mornings but that’s neither here nor there. The last hot chocolate I made for this blog is by absolute favorite, and if you’re not a fan of pumpkin and rather a more citrusy kick, check out my orange hot chocolate. In the event that you are obsessed with fall and all things rich, creamy and orange, continue reading to get the recipe for the perfect cup.

Strawberry shortcake-ish

Cake Cake Cake...

My family members are always the catalyst for recipe ideas. That cookie and cream ice-cream cake for my cousin, the entire vegetarian month was for my mom, and now this strawberry shortcake for my beloved little sister. Her middle name is “strawberry short cheesecake” because if there is anything she loves more than strawberry shortcake it would be cheesecake. Cheesecake I detest, but strawberry shortcake on the other hand can be delicious.

Cookie 'n' cream icecream cake

Cake Cake Cake...

As the years go by it seems that there is less and less cookie in an actual cookie and cream ice-cream, blame it on the economy. The cookie has always been the best part of that ice-cream flavor for me. What I began to do, rather than a ready-made cookie and cream ice-cream, I would go to a done to order cold stone or froyo joint, where I can add as much cookies as I would like. But sometimes you don’t want to wait in line, you want to open your freezer and have it your way. And as we know there is no better way to remedy culinary shortcomings by making the dish in question yourself. So I attempted to create a cookie and cream ice-cream with an overload of cookies…just the way I like it.

Hungry Man Scramble

Breakfast is served!

I take my eggs very seriously; as a matter of fact I take breakfast very seriously. It’s surprising to me that I took this long to dedicate a month of blogging solely to breakfast foods.  This post is about the most filling delicious and healthy scrambled egg platter you will ever eat. It’s so good in fact that after a serving of this breakfast, you would have cast a very powerful spell on your significant other, enough so that thoughts of proposals will begin to swarm in the minds.

So be warned, if it is your intent to have a fling, no strings attached, non-committed, no marriage relationship, DO NOT COOK THE FOOD ON THIS BLOG AND SERVE IT TO SAID PERSON!  But if you’re trying to lock it down real quick…stick around.

Orange Hot chocolate

"Feast of Saint Valentine"

There is just something about a rich warm cup of hot chocolate that makes you feel warm, fuzzy and special inside. If you’ve read my post on a chocolate orange crepe you would have already known I have an obsession with the flavors of orange and chocolate paired. I don’t know what it is, but I think the sweet citrus aromas of an orange with milk chocolate are just the perfect match. In my book, nothing else pairs better with chocolate; not mint, not strawberries, not even hazelnut (sorry Nutella). Orange and chocolate equal’s bliss, and this orange hot chocolate is blissful.

Egg nog Ice-cream

"Christmas is coming"

So I recently just learned that my mother is not superwoman. My mother, sister and I were casually talking about the recipes I would be making for November. I mentioned egg nog ice-cream, then my sister and I began to regale her about how much we loved her egg nog as kids, and asking what’s her recipe, come to find out she purchased canned egg nog! All these years I was here thinking my mom made the best egg-nog, turns out its, store bought Ha Ha! Well it was quite the revelation; I began to wonder what other tricks she had up her sleeve.

Pumpkin Rum Cake

  "Pumpkin Everythang”

It’s time for the dessert course

Regardless of what anyone says, I absolutely love Paula Dean. She has always been one of my favorite cooking personalities on TV. I always love the chefs that give you recipes that tastes as delicious as they looks.  And with Paula, rest assured you can follow her recipes and be happy. Thanks to her we inducted a pumpkin bar recipe into our family, to us  its known as the pumpkin cake.

Sweet potato ice-cream sandwich

Independence Month!

One of the best Jamaican desserts has to be sweet potato pudding. When made correctly, its a warm sweet treat with a custard consistency on top, a firm center with crispy caramelized edges. As a child we would sneak in the pudding and break off the edges.  For this month’s series of recipes I wanted to include  a dessert twist. And what better twist can there be than to sandwich grape-nut ice-cream between some sweet potato pudding.

Four Cheese Pumpkin Penne

a.k.a Grown up Macaroni and Cheese

Cookout and BBQ Season!

A beautiful rainy morning (a work day I might add) I woke up and decided I’m not going to work. Nope, I am in the mood to stay home and cook something real hearty and comforting in the cold and gloomy weather. I knew I wanted something different, something I never cooked before or have never seen anyone else cook. I had purchased some pumpkin a few days before, as well as an interesting butternut squash pasta sauce, so I figured I could incorporate them in some way. Headed down to the kitchen with a pumpkin and a dream.

Vanilla bean, Grape-nut Ice-cream (NO EGGS)

Cookout and BBQ Season!

For the month of July my posts will be dedicated to summer foods. The food you can expect at every BBQ; Ice-creams, sorbets, grilling, potato salads, and sauces, all with my special twist of course.

So to kick off the month which also happens to be National ice-cream month (USA) let’s begin with an ice-cream recipe I have made countless times.  Vanilla bean, grape-nut ice-cream
